Who the 5 Series Touring 540d xDrive suits
The 540d xDrive Touring pairs the longest wagon in our fleet with the strongest diesel. It is the current 5 Series Touring with a 3.0-litre six-cylinder diesel mild hybrid, 299 hp, automatic gearbox and xDrive all-wheel drive, finished in M Sport Pro trim.
It suits people who drive long distances with a full car and do not want to compromise on pace or comfort. The six-cylinder pulls effortlessly with five people and luggage on board, which matters on the unrestricted Autobahn sections and on long climbs into the Alps. Behind the rear seats there are about 570 litres of boot space, the same as in the 520d Touring.
Where the 540d really pays off is the long, heavy trip: a family of four with a full boot on the Autobahn from Grafenwoehr to Ramstein, a ski week in the Alps with everyone's gear, a drive to Italy that starts before dawn. The six-cylinder does that work quietly, which leaves everyone less tired at the end of the day. It also suits people who tow, provided the concrete car has a hitch, which you request at booking and we confirm by email. If your driving is mostly short and local, you will rarely feel the difference to the 520d Touring.
The difference to the 520d xDrive Touring is the engine, not the space. If you mostly drive in town or carry light loads, the 520d is the more sensible pick one price class lower. If you regularly cover big distances, for example between Bavaria and bases in Rhineland-Palatinate or Hesse, or travel heavily loaded, the extra torque of the 540d makes every trip calmer. All-wheel drive and seasonal tyres make it a strong winter car.

What is included in the monthly price?
Fully comprehensive and partial cover with a EUR 1,500 deductible, registration, German plates and road tax, maintenance and service, seasonal tyres, 3,000 km a month and a PCS clause. There is no setup fee. VAT forms accepted. You add fuel.
Is there a deposit?
Yes, three months' rent of your plan: €6,657 on the 6-month plan and on the 30-day plan incl. VAT, €5,595 on the 30-day plan with a VAT form (NF-1), VAT-free. You pay it on site at handover, not online. You get the deposit back immediately at the return, as soon as the return report shows no damage. There is no down payment. For customers resident in Germany we run a credit check with SCHUFA Holding AG before the contract starts. If the result is negative, we may decline the booking; anything already paid is refunded in full.
What is the difference between the 540d and the 520d Touring?
The engine. Both are the current 5 Series Touring with the same space and xDrive; the 540d has a 3.0-litre six-cylinder diesel mild hybrid with 299 hp instead of the 520d's 2.0-litre diesel with 197 hp.
Can the 540d Touring tow a trailer?
That depends on whether the concrete car has a trailer hitch. Request it when you book, and we confirm by email whether a suitable car is available.
How big is the boot of the 540d Touring?
