- Golf underneath, copper-and-black attitude on top. Huge trunk.
- Petrol, DSG automatic, cheap to run.
Who the Cupra Leon Sportstourer suits
The Leon Sportstourer is the practical wagon of our mid price class. Its boot holds about 620 litres, which is more than many larger SUVs, and the low loading edge makes heavy suitcases, a dog crate or a stroller easy to lift in. It shares its technology with the Volkswagen Golf family, so parts and service are straightforward anywhere in Germany.
Our car has the 1.5 eTSI: a petrol mild hybrid with 150 hp, front-wheel drive and a DSG automatic. It suits families and households who need space but mostly drive mixed routes, short trips in town plus the occasional Autobahn weekend. The petrol engine is happy with short distances where a diesel would never warm up properly.
For many households the Leon is the practical all-rounder: a proper wagon, a petrol engine that suits short daily trips, and an automatic gearbox. It fits the rhythm of family life on and off post, with the weekly shop, sports bags, a stroller and a dog crate all going into the same boot. Visiting family from the States? Airport runs with four adults and suitcases work, as long as nobody packed for three months. The one thing to know before you book is that it is front-wheel drive, so on snowy side roads you rely on winter tyres and a light right foot.
If you are arriving in Germany with a lot of luggage, or you are in the middle of a PCS move and need to shuttle boxes between temporary lodging and your new house, this is a sensible pick. Winter driving is front-wheel drive on seasonal tyres. For more power in the same shape, look at the BMW 3 Series Touring; for a higher seating position with the same engine, the Cupra Formentor.

Yes. It has the 1.5 eTSI petrol mild hybrid with 150 hp and a DSG automatic gearbox, so there is no clutch pedal. It is front-wheel drive.
Leon Sportstourer or Formentor?
Same engine and gearbox, different shape. The Leon Sportstourer is the wagon with the bigger, more practical boot and a low loading edge; the Formentor is the coupé SUV with a higher seating position and a sloping roof. For luggage, prams and dogs, pick the Leon.
How big is the boot of the Leon Sportstourer?
620 litres with all seats in use, up to 1,600 litres with the rear seats folded (figures from Cupra, Leon Sportstourer 1.5 eTSI DSG). That is 170 litres more than the Formentor (450 litres).
How much fuel does the Leon Sportstourer use?
Officially 5.4–5.7 litres of petrol per 100 km combined, with combined CO₂ emissions of 122–131 g/km and CO₂ class D (WLTP, figures from Cupra, Leon Sportstourer 1.5 eTSI DSG). The range depends on the equipment. WLTP is a test value; your own figure depends on how you drive.
How much can the Leon Sportstourer tow?
Up to 1,500 kg braked at a 12 % gradient, according to the ADAC car catalogue (Leon Sportstourer 1.5 eTSI DSG). A hitch depends on the concrete car: request it at booking, we confirm by email.
