Who the CLA Coupé suits

The CLA Coupé is the car people pick with their eyes first, and there is nothing wrong with that. It is a four-door coupé with frameless door windows and the AMG Line styling, built on the same compact platform as the A-Class. Our car has the CLA 200: a 1.3-litre petrol with 163 hp, front-wheel drive and an automatic gearbox.

In daily use it drives as simply as the A-Class. It suits singles and couples who want something that looks special for evenings out and weekend trips, and who rarely use the rear seats for adults. The sloping roofline takes some rear headroom and makes the boot opening narrower than on a hatchback, so a pushchair or large suitcases need a bit of tetris.

Think of the CLA as the car for your time off. It suits a tour where weekends matter: Prague, Salzburg, the Alps or the Rhine, with two people and two bags. It is also a sensible single-driver car on post, because the petrol engine is happy with short hops and the compact length makes parking easy. Before you book, be honest about your back seat. The low roofline means adults climb in more carefully, and fitting a child seat takes more care than in a taller car like the BMW X1 or the Mercedes GLA. If that is your daily reality, one of those is the better pick.

The petrol engine is smooth and quiet for short trips around town and on post, where a diesel never really warms up. For long daily motorway commutes, the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé 218d is the more economical four-door coupé in the same price class. In winter the CLA drives on front-wheel drive with the seasonal tyres included in your monthly price.

What is included in the monthly price?

Fully comprehensive and partial cover with a EUR 1,500 deductible, registration, German plates and road tax, maintenance and service, seasonal tyres, 3,000 km a month and a PCS clause. There is no setup fee. VAT forms accepted. You add fuel.

Is there a deposit?

Yes, three months' rent of your plan: €3,897 on the 6-month plan and on the 30-day plan incl. VAT, €3,276 on the 30-day plan with a VAT form (NF-1), VAT-free. You pay it on site at handover, not online. You get the deposit back immediately at the return, as soon as the return report shows no damage. There is no down payment. For customers resident in Germany we run a credit check with SCHUFA Holding AG before the contract starts. If the result is negative, we may decline the booking; anything already paid is refunded in full.

Can I fit a child seat in the CLA Coupé?

Yes, it has four doors and five seats. The sloping roof means fitting a child seat and lifting a child in take more care than in a taller car, so for daily use with small children the BMW X1 or the Mercedes GLA is easier on your back.

Is the CLA Coupé petrol or diesel?

Petrol. Our CLA 200 has a 1.3-litre petrol engine with 163 hp, front-wheel drive and an automatic gearbox. That suits short and mixed driving; for long daily Autobahn commutes a diesel such as the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé 218d uses less fuel.

How big is the boot of the CLA Coupé?
